Earn Cash by completing your HRA!
The Division of Personnel is advising all employees and all retirees under the age of 65 (who are the primary plan member and maintain health insurance coverage under the Executive Branch’s Group Health Insurance Plan, including those employees/retirees at non-profit organizations), that the Government Employee’s Service Commission (GESC) Health Insurance Board (as the sponsor of the insurance plan’s wellness program) has established a new rule which requires those members to fully complete their annual Health Risk Assessment (HRA) on Cigna’s website, www.mycigna.com.
The HRA must be fully completed to include actual biometric numbers for glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol. The deadline to complete the HRA for the fiscal year 2014 cycle is 11:59 pm on Sunday, September 14, 2014. Those employees and retirees who fail to complete the HRA by the established deadline will be subjected to a biweekly insurance charge of $ 20.83 in fiscal year 2015 in addition to their regular health insurance premium. (Please note this requirement is only for the active employees and retirees under 65 who are currently covered by Cigna and not their dependents.) So you think you can Sing!
The Director of Personnel is inviting all Group Health Insurance plan members to participate in a Jingle contest. Members are being asked to test their creative side and develop a one (1) minute jingle that embodies the GVI H.E.A.L.T.H. (Helping Employees Achieve Long Term Health) and Wellness Program.
Submissions will be accepted between February 3, 2014 and March 3, 2014. Six (6) finalists will be selected by the GESC Health Insurance Board and those jingles will be aired when possible on radio and on Division of Personnel’s (DOP) website for the public to vote on. All voting will conclude on March 14, 2014. The public’s votes will be combined with the panel of judges' votes to select the Grand Prize winning entry. The winner will take home a $1,500.00 prize.
To be eligible to participate, you must be an employee, retiree or dependent of a member of the Government of the Virgin Islands Group Health Insurance plan who is 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. For more information click on the word JINGLE or contact Jervon Ottley at 340-774-8588.
Calling All Hot Steppas
The Division of Personnel, (DOP) in partnership with the GESC Health Insurance Board and Cigna Healthcare, is pleased to restart the “Just Walk 10,000 Steps-a-Day”. This 8-week walking program is a fun and easy way to get more physically active. Equipped with a pedometer, participants can track their daily steps, record them on a personalized website, and receive coaching tips and fun facts by email.
This initiative, for employees of the Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands (GVI), is part of the DOP’s Wellness Program, which has a mission of “Helping Employees Achieve Long Term Health”. DOP Director Kenneth L. Hermon, Jr. stated, “The health benefits of regular physical activity are far-reaching: reduced risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and other chronic diseases prevalent in our local community; lower health care costs; and improved quality of life.”
The walking program officially launches January 25, 2014 in both districts. Leading up to the launch, employees from various local government agencies will rally together for a Kick-off Walk in each district on Saturday, January 25, 2014.
GVI employees need to first register with their agency’s human resources (HR) office in order to participate in “Just Walk 10,000 Steps-a-Day” and receive a free pedometer. Program details are available at www.dopusvi.org and through the GVI agencies’ HR offices.
